Unable to move, the young dog’s fate hung in the balance until a guardian angel in the form of a police officer came to her rescue.
Officer Joe Brazil of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, is known for his unwavering dedication to helping those in need, and he didn’t hesitate for a moment when he le arned of the puppy’s predicament.
The story, shared by Peggy Edwards on Facebook on May 2, 2016, quickly captured the hearts of many due to its touching nature.
It all began when a car startled a sweet Yorkshire Terrier puppy, causing her to flee in fear and dart into a nearby tunnel.
Peggy Edwards recounted the incident on Facebook, saying, “On April 30th, a little dog was running about freely when it was frightened by a passing car. It darted into a tunnel that runs alongside a local creek. She found herself about 20-25 feet inside, clinging to the edge.”
Despite her instincts telling her to help, Peggy hesitated, fearing that her actions might further scare the frightened puppy, causing her to retreat deeper into the tunnel.
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Peggy immediately contacted the Woonsocket Police Department, and help was on the way.
Shortly thereafter, Officer Joe Brazil arrived, ready to lend a helping hand.
Peggy described the brave officer’s actions, stating, “He plunged in without a moment’s hesitation and emerged with a soaking wet, frightened little dog.”
Before venturing into the tunnel to rescue the small dog, Officer Brazil removed his shoes and socks, demonstrating his commitment to the rescue mission.
WJAR NBC10 reported, “As he got closer, I could see Cece clinging to the side, trembling,” describing the tense moment when the officer first approached the terrified pup.
Taking extra care not to further frighten the dog, Officer Brazil approached the situation with patience and compassion.
In a remarkable move, once he was close enough to the trembling dog, he allowed Cece to follow his fingers a bit further into the tunnel, ultimately lifting her to safety.
Officer Brazil shared, “She seemed to know I was there to help. It almost seemed like she was saying thank you.”
As captured in a photo from the rescue, Cece, the adorable dog, appeared incredibly grateful for the handsome officer who had saved her.
In a subsequent interview with WJAR NBC10, it was revealed that the dog’s name was Cece, and she was not a stray but belonged to a loving family.
Michelle Perez, Cece’s owner, expressed her relief at the reunion. According to her account, her mother-in-law had given her the adorable puppy, but it had escaped the following day.
Cece, at just five months old, was ecstatically reunited with her owner, thanks to the efforts of Peggy Edwards and the kind-hearted Officer Joe Brazil. A heartwarming ending to a harrowing tale, we are all overjoyed that Cece was rescued and returned to her loving human family!
